USAID Partners Monsanto to Promote GMOs in Nepal
February 5th, 2012 | Posted by in Organic EventsIn a statement issued by USAID, the agency is partnering with Nepal's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the biotechnology giants, Mosanto to promote the distribution and training of 20,000 farmers in the growing of hybrid corn seeds in Nepal. The news has caused a frenzy in the media and public outcry from the populace of a country that is very cautious about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) as the government had quickly took precautionary measures to ensure GMO labeling on all foods items when it was discovered in the nation's food supplies in 2003.
