Winter Groundwork for your Garden
November 30th, 2012 | Posted by in Organic GardeningPreparing your garden for the winter is a critical step. Here are some things you can do to take care of your garden when the temperatures drop. Leave the plants in the garden to die naturally and cover up the soil. Thus nutrients will be restored into the soil. Compost all the organic matter and have a cover crop over the soil. The soil, roots, insects and micro organisms can be protected if you mulch. Rake the leaves into the beds. If there are any plants that thrive only during the rains or humid winters then cover them with a moisture retaining mulch. Or, you can develop hoop houses and various other structures to continue growing during the winter season.
