Wiseacres Give Emphasis To On Locally Grown Organic Food
August 30th, 2012 | Posted by in Organic FoodSmall-scale and mixed farming approach is still alive in Centreville. John Wise grows organic meat products and certified organic grain, vegetable, and berry crops at Wiseacres, his farm on Centreville Rd. His 100-acre property along with 150 acres of rented neighboring land offers the right platform for Wise's crops and livestock. Fifty per cent of all his business is done in providing organic crops like wheat and soybeans to organic grain buyers across Ontario and Quebec. Wise is the son of a history professor and he went on to study fruit and vegetable production at the University of Guelph, and eventually ended up at the Centreville property in 1978. He keeps long lists of customers and calls them up when their desired product is ready. Wise is fastidious about maintaining soil quality through natural means without using chemical fertilizers.
