New findings in plants and food crops genetics have opened new avenues in producing crops with improved quality and lower costs per benefit unit. But big genetics industry players like Monsanto are squeezing out smaller farms trying to make a livelihood for themselves and their families. A Maine farmer is now heading a group to strongly challenge the monopoly of Monsanto in producing genetic food crops.
